Livestock Husbandry Goes Digital

FarmIT Offers 4-H and FAA Members Digital Records Management

One out of every seven adults in the U.S. are former 4-H members.

Recognizing that the majority of a livestock husbandry projects occur in the pen or corral, we elected to initially build FarmIT as an iOS app.

Numbered ear tags are inefficient and cannot be efficiently attached to the digital record of a project animal.

We soon realized that FarmIT is a great solution not only for 4-H and FFA members, but also for ranchers and farmers with large livestock populations.

For the past century, 4-H clubs around the world have engaged youth to help them learn citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and life skills through experiential learning. The 4-H motto “to make the best better” and slogan of “learn by doing” are cornerstones of the organization’s mission. (more…)

The Internet of Things (IoT) Meets the Ranch

FarmIT App Offers Cost-Effective Livestock Management Alternative

The potential IoT universe is much larger than most machine-to-machine communications when all of the different sensors scattered around the world are factored into the equation.

Gartner predicts there will be 25 billion things connected to the Internet by 2020.

With FarmIT, ranchers, feedlots, dairies, as well as 4-H and FFA members no longer need to purchase expensive EID readers and RFID-enabled ear tags.

Users can track individual animals by scanning one- and two-dimensional barcodes or quick response (QR) codes on livestock ear tags using the built-in cameras on their iPhones.

Pick up virtually any technology publication or visit any technology-related website, and you are likely to see references, blog posts, and articles on something called The Internet of Things (IoT). Now that nearly three-quarters of the American population owns a smartphone, IoT is seen as “the next big thing” when it comes to the digital revolution. (more…)

Maintaining a Low Altitude of E-Commerce Personalization

E-Commerce Personalization Experiences

Personalization of marketing experiences is the name of the game. It involves multiple channels and requires integration across each of them. Companies that deliver personalized digital experiences for their customers generate double-digit returns on their marketing programs. This also extends to e-commerce experiences.

E-commerce platform providers like Demandware and Shopify enable B2C and B2B online businesses to deliver personalized shopping experiences to customers when they are online as well as offline. A critical part of this process involves the use of data analytics and business intelligence (BI) to understand the behaviors of known and unknown customers. When the next-generation e-commerce platforms are integrated with other software solutions such as live web chat and real-time personalization offers and content, the potential business impact is amplified.

Eight Tips for Better UI/UX Design

It covers everything from computers, to home and office appliances, to mobile devices, to various other electronic devices. The objective is to design products that are intuitive, easy to use, and simple to interact with. Yet users of many solutions only use 10, 20, or 30 percent of product capabilities—hardware and software—something that often can be attributed to poor UI/UX design. (more…)
